Hi, my name is Joy Yijun Sun.  I am a licensed Acupucturist and Diplomate in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbology (NCCAOM).

In China, Western and Eastern medicine are combined to care for patients, in most hospitals.  From experience, they complement each other and…it just makes sense.  Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine are facilitators to help your body do the work.

I was born and raised in Beijing, China.  My family is in the engineering field, but I had more curiosity leaning toward the health care profession.  I chose to go to Beijing University for Chinese Medicine. After six years of intensive training in both Western and Eastern medicine, I did a residency in Sino-Japanese Friendship Hospital.  There I worked in the Chinese Medicine Department as a physician and had great success with pain management.  We treated various conditions using a variety of applications including acupuncture, cupping, moxibustion, acupressure, Tuina, Qi Gong, Gua Sha and Chinese herbal medicine.  In 1997, I was employed as a lecturer and practitioner by the College of Acupuncture and Orthopedics and Beijing University of Chinese Medicine.  Shortly after we were transferred to the USA and ultimately Missouri.

I currently live in St. Louis with my husband and daughter, who is now a college freshman!  Since being in the US I have embraced the culture.  I’ve taken English lessons and received my Missouri License in Acupuncture and national certification (NCCAOM) in both acupuncture and herbology.

In my spare time I enjoy cooking meals with American ingredients, and walking or jogging at the park.   I take pride in eating healthy and keeping active and enjoying a well balanced life.

I truly believe that our bodies are perfect creatures created by God.  They have their own healing power if just given the chance.  But imbalances occur and sometimes we need a little guidance.  Acupuncture is becoming well known and widely used for treatment of disorders like digestive issues, musculoskeletal pain or dysfunction, neurological disease, immune compromise, women’s health and more.  It helps with healing and slowing down the disease process.  It is also great for disease prevention by promoting balance in the body’s energy system before the condition can become a disease or even be diagnosed by Western medicine.

I look forward to meeting you and helping to take care of your health needs.  I know that acupuncture can be intimidating, but I’ll help you through that.  You will be glad you tried it and hopefully it will become a part of your health regiment.
